Warrior Dash- August 2011

Copper Mountain / Warrior Dash Trip – August 2011

Prologue – About the trip.

Several months ago, Brian decided to sign up for the Warrior Dash. It is what has become termed an “adventure race”. Which means that it is a timed race, but in addition to running, there are all kinds of crazy obstacles to go through. People often come dressed in costumes, and pretty much everyone comes out covered in mud. He thought this sounded like great fun. So we planned a long-weekend trip to the mountains around it. We stayed 3 nights at Copper Ski Resort (which is where the race was), with stops at the Florrisant Fossil Beds and Breckenridge on the way there and back. Copper has become our favorite ski-vacation destination the last few years, so so were excited to see what it was like in the summer.

Jamaica – June 2011

Trip Report – Beaches Negril Resort, Negril Jamaica – June 2011

Prologue.

As we have done for several years, a summer vacation was chosen based on our rotating schedule. This year was my pick. A natural pattern seemed to be emerging – Brian picked a national park, Lily picked Disney World, and I picked some exotic beach-y location. So it had been, and my original plan was to continue this. However, with our financial situation having changed when Owen was born, I thought perhaps I should do something more reasonable, and spent several months planning a trip to southern California. We would go to Sea World, Universal, etc, and maybe even sneak in a Character meal at Disneyland. I had a tentative schedule made, hotel and car reservations made, and was considering buying our airplane tickets soon. And then realized that the Beaches Resorts in Jamaica had a nice sale going on.

Skiing @ Copper – January 2011

After trying out many of the different ski resorts in our state, we have decided Copper is our favorite, so this year we are, for the first time, staying on-site in a slopeside Condo! Part of our package deal included Secret-Pass lift tickets, so we will be able to skip the lines! Last year, I didn’t get to ski, since i was pregnant with Owen, and I’m anxious to see how I do on the slopes this year.

Disney World – June 2010

Trip Report. Disney World – June 2010

Prologue. Some Basic Information.

Two years ago, the 3 of us spent a week at Disney World – we stayed in the Polynesian Resort and had an absolutely wonderful time. We originally planned to return in 3 years, but due to various reasons, bumped up the trip to this year instead of next. As we were starting to plan for it last summer, we thought it would be fun to bring along Brian’s family too. So we booked 3 rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and again did the Deluxe Dining Plan. We have been planning for most of the last year, and can’t wait to get back to the Most Magical Place on Earth!

Santa Fe – March 2010

It’s no secret we like to travel, and for several years we’ve tried to make a point of going somewhere for Spring Break. But as March was fast approaching, we still had no plans. After finding out I was pregnant in January, and being swamped with both church and school work, there just hadn’t been time to think about it.

Thanksgiving in Florida – 2009

For many years now, we’ve alternated going to Florida for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year is a “Thanksgiving year”, so we were all set to head to the sunshine state for Turkey day. The days leading up to the trip were chaotic, and I wondered how in the world we would possibly be ready to go! But finally, everything was packed, all pets were properly distributed to their temporary care-givers, and we were set.

Chicago Trip Report: March 26 – April 1, 2009

Chapter 1. Can we Beat the Blizzard

We had made the decision the night before – we would get up as early as we could bear and head on up to Denver to try to beat the storm. We knew there was no guarantee that it would even hold off that long, but we also knew that if we weren’t out of town by early morning we were not going to make it at all. The whole region was put under a Blizzard warning at around 6am – we got on the road by 6:30. We had to drop Nala off at the PetsHotel – they opened at 7am, and actually let us in a few minutes early. That went smoothly and quickly so we were soon on our way. The storm was coming from the North, and we drove straight towards the middle of it as fast as we could. Thinking the whole time we must be a bit crazy. So far the morning seemed so calm and serene though – the sunrise was even peeking through the clouds a bit in the East. The calm before the storm.

Saturday (12/20/08) was a busy day. And Brian was working at Marion House Soup Kitchen most of the day so Lily and I were on our own to get everything accomplished. They day got very cold in the afternoon – a blustery wind came in and it was very unpleasant to be outside! Appropriate that we should be welcoming winter tonight, I suppose.
